Tract Text

The Will of God vs. The Will of Man.
Author: Ed Krusiewig

Romans 12:1-2

Faith begins where the will of God is known. And the will of God can be found in the first 2 books of Genesis and the last two books of Revelation. (Romans 12:2) tells us that when we no longer conform to the patterns of this world but are transformed by the renewing of our minds, we will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.

From the moment that God created man, He had a plan for mans life. God's plan would be centered on a personal relationship with Him. God created us for His pleasure. (Colossians 1:16) God did not need us, He was not lonely and He was not bored or just needed something to do. He created us because He wanted us and loves us.

But there is another will in the world called the will of man. Your spirit can be 100% in line and willing to do what God wants, while your soul wants to do something entirely different. It is very possible to have spirit prosperity and soul poverty. If you see someone sitting in a wheel chair your spirit says, “Grab that person by the hand, pull him or her up out of that chair and be healed," but your soul says "Lawsuit."

One of the biggest problems in the church today is that while the spirit is in line with God, our soul is off on its own program trying to make the ends fall in line with the means. Think about how many times you have been in church and during the message your mind was off in la la land thinking about the bills, what's for dinner tonight, I need to stop at the store or some other thought when you should be listening to what God is saying through His message. This is soul poverty! Your soul is not in line with your spirit while this is happening. Sometimes we need to just tell our mind to "Shut Up".

Pain, Poverty and Depression

No one likes pain, no one wants to be miserable, and no one wants to walk around depressed every day. Yet when we follow our mind (soul) and not our spirit we tend to drag ourselves into the same miserable, depressed and painful situations. Our spirit tells us "Don't go there," and our soul says, "Go for it." It's like the old cartoon that has a little devil on one shoulder whispering into one ear and the angel in the other. It's remarkable how man is capable of turning critical situations into humor in an effort of self-approval, and turning an obvious wrong into an OK.

We live in a world today that is explosive with new technology and so fast paced that if you stop even for a minute everything seems to pass right by you. So many new things are dangled in front of us every day that we think we must have, to be happy. When in fact, our complete and total happiness stems entirely by being centered in Jesus.

The problem is that when we make decisions based entirely on feelings, we tend to find ourselves caught up in situations that will become very unpleasant. Knowing that you can't afford a new car payment and then buying the car anyway will cause you a great deal of grief when you try to make ends meet later.

We all have a built-in sense of right and wrong (Romans 2:15) given to us by God. However when we ignore what our spirit is telling us, and follow our mind (Soul) based on feelings, we usually will not be pleased with the outcome. Following our spirit is at times is uncomfortable, but the outcome will never cause us any pain. God speaks to us through our spirit, and He will never lead us astray. God knows what is best for each and every one of us.

So how do we follow our spirit?

We listen. When something is absolutely right we have no problem making a decision. When something is not right, all of a sudden we get this uncomfortable feeling inside causing us to go into what I call the "Should I or Shouldn't I" mode. This is a very clear indication that something is wrong. This alone should cause us to stop in our tracts and turn the other way. (John 10:4 - 5) "His sheep follow Him because they know His voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a strangers voice."

Recognizing God's voice takes some time, even though it has been there all along. That's right, I said all along. God has always talked to His children; He even talks to non-believers. The problem is, we don't listen. The more you hear and listen, the easier it gets to know who is speaking.

So how can you be certain that the voice you are hearing is God's voice? You pray and ask God to give you clarity. You ask God to speak to you so that you will have no doubt that it is God. Find a quiet spot away from the noise of the world and listen closely for His whisper in your ear.

God Bless you.
