  WHO WAS ABRAHAM
dialog background

We all know that there are consequences to any actions we take on a day to day basis. What we do can set into motion a series of events that may continue long after we are gone. When we make decisions we don't always think of the long term effects but tend to only think of what will happen immediately.

Abraham had choices to make. His decision was between setting out with his family and belongings for the unknown, or staying right where he was. He had to decide between staying where he was secure, or the uncertainty of traveling under God's direction. All he had to go on was God's promise to guide and bless him. He had to rely on faith.

Abraham didn't know how the future was resting on his decision, but his obedience affected the history of the world. His decision to follow God set into motion the development of the nation that God would eventually use as His own when He visited earth Himself as Jesus. When Jesus came to earth, God's promise was fulfilled; through Abraham the entire world was blessed.

You probably don't know the long term effects of most of the decisions you make. But shouldn't the fact that there will be long term effects cause you to think carefully and seek God's guidance as you make choices and take action?

Abraham had no idea that he would become the father of all nations and they would be blessed. He only had the promise of God that if he followed Him, everything would be alright. Sometimes we hear a voice inside calling out for us to do something or go somewhere. Perhaps it's as simple as helping an elderly person pump their gas, or as profound as moving to a different part of the country. But no matter what it is, we need to seek the guidance of the Lord, and follow His instructions letting Him take care of the details.

Do you allow God to guide you through your life? Do you know God? Do you know Jesus?

Are you certain that you are going to heaven? If the answer is no or your not really sure and there is something stirring inside you at this very moment to do this, then all you have to do is say a small prayer and you can be assured of your name being added to the Book of Life. Go to the prayer of salvation and pray the words out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved.

Abraham's story is told in Genesis 11 - 25. He is also mentioned in Exodus 2:24; Acts 7:2 - 8; Romans 4; Galatians 3; Hebrews 2, 6, 7 and 11.
