The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)

  1. "You shall have no other gods before Me."
  2. "You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
  3. "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain."
  4. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy."
  5. "Honor your father and your mother."
  6. "You shall not murder."
  7. "You shall not commit adultery."
  8. "You shall not steal."
  9. "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."
  10. "You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."

The word You begins each commandment except for number 5 for obvious reasons! And number 5 still says that you should honor your father and mother.

A lot of people think the ten Commandments are rules put there to make our lives miserable. Can't do this, can't do that. If you really stop and think about the Commandments, you will begin to see that by simply doing what it says, your life would be a lot less complicated. For example: If you steal something you run the risk of prison. If you never steal, you will never have to worry about prison. Another example would be lying. If you lie and get caught, well you get the picture.

God provided these Commandments out of His love for us, as a guide to how we should live our lives, not as a way to keep us from having a good time.
