The Bible, like other books, are recordings written by man of actual events that have happened or are going to happen. Although men wrote down the words you must remember that God gave each and every word to these men through the Holy Spirit. God gives us the Bible so that we might know Him and the love He has for each and everyone of us.
The Bible consists of 66 books that are broken into two sections called the Old Testament and the New Testament The Old Testament was Before Jesus and the New Testament is after Jesus. The books of the Bible as as follows: |
The Old Testament are the books of Genesis through Malachi. The New Testament are the books of Matthew through Revelation. The four books of the Bible called Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are what is called the Gospel or Good News. These four books tell the story of Jesus Christ. Although each of these books stand alone, emphasizing a unique aspect of Jesus' life, when blended into one complete account or harmonized, we gain a new insightes into the life of Christ. It's interesting to note that the Gospel was actually written some years after Jesus was crusified. Jesus was crusified in the year 30 A.D. The book of Matthew was written somewhere between 60 - 65 A.D. or some 30 plus years later. The book of Mark was written between 55 - 65 A.D. again between 25 to 35 years after Jesus was crusified. Luke was written about 60 A.D. and John between 80 - 90 A.D. Even though these books were written many years later they all tell the exact same stories about Jesus. The eye witness accounts of what really happened was put to paper for the world to read. It's also interesting to note that even in our court system today the testimony of 2 or more witnesses to an event is considered much more truthful than just 1 witness. |
