The Law
Most of us, at some time have stood in front of a Judge. Some of us for minor traffic tickets, while others for theft or even murder. And we, as a society issue punishments in relation to the crime committed. A minor traffic violation will usually come with a fine in a set amount of dollars, but if you commit a murder, you could get life in prison or even the death penalty.
How do we know which punishment fits which crime? In fact, how do we even know that what we have done is a crime? It’s called the "Law", and each and every one of us has a "built in" sense of right and wrong. (Romans 2:15)
So where did this law come from? It came from God! God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, so that we would have a clear understanding of what is right and what is wrong. If we break any one or combination of the Ten Commandments we stand convicted and are guilty with no excuse.
It is pretty amazing that God covered each and every crime man would commit in the past, present and future with one or more of the Ten Commandments. You can find the Ten Commandments in the book of Exodus chapter 20 in the Bible.
Being convicted of a crime here on earth by a Judge and paying the fine or serving your time in jail will satisfy men, but it doesn't in any way satisfy God for your sin. In fact no matter what you do physically you cannot satisfy God. (Romans 3:23) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Ask yourself this question: Have you ever lied? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever looked at another lustfully?
If you answered yes to any of these questions and were standing before God right at this very moment, would you be guilty? And if you were guilty wouldn't you be punished? (Romans 6:23) "For the wages of sin is death." Death is being eternally separated from God and cast into the "Eternal Fire" that we refer to as hell!
On the day of final judgment Jesus will sit on His thrown and He will separate all the people from one another. The righteous on His right, and the unrighteous on His left. (Matthew 25:41) "Then He will say to those on His left 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for Satan and his angels.'" This is not a place I would care to be. It is however, where I deserve to be because of my sins, a place we all deserve to be. God's desire is that no one be cast into the fire, not one. (2 Peter 3:9)
Since God does not want any of us to be cast into the fire, how do we assure ourselves that we will be saved? Do we go to church every Sunday? Do we drop to our knees every morning at 8 a.m. and pray for 10 minutes? Do we stand on our heads in the corner until we get a sign from heaven? No, in fact there is nothing physically that we can do to earn our salvation. Someone had to pay the price for our sins, and that someone was Jesus! Jesus took your place and paid the death penalty for you, so that you might live. All you have to do is accept it! It is a free gift from God
(John 3:16) "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Accepting God's free gift.
The Bible tells us in (Romans 10:9-10) that, if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
If you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead then all you have to do is confess with your mouth by saying the following prayer out loud. It's that simple.
Father in heaven I love you I confess that I am a sinner I believe that Jesus was your Son And that He died on a cross as payment for my sins against you And on the third day You raised Him from the dead I pray this in Jesus name, Amen!
If you just prayed this prayer then we want to welcome you to God's family and assure you that your name was added to the Lamb's Book of Life and you will spend eternity with God in heaven.
